The sheriff is required by law to charge fees for most civil processes and enforcement of judgment actions. Fees must be paid in advance and range from $30 for most basic services to $1,200 or more for complex levies. Sheriff’s fees are set in accordance with the California Code
(26720 et. seq.). The sheriff is entitled to these fees whether or not the service or execution is successful. Fees paid to the sheriff will increase the total amount to satisfy the judgment. Checks must be made payable to the Colusa County Sheriff.
Specific Service Fees
Any service request (except a domestic violence restraining order) will require a specific service fee. Unless you provide the sheriff with a fee waiver order issued by the court, sheriff fees will be required in order to process your service request. Please contact the Civil Division at (530) 458-0227 concerning fees, deposits, and/or other requirements that might be necessary for any levies other than:
- Bank Levies
- Earning Withholding Order - Wage Garnishments
- Writs of Possession – Eviction

Disbursement of Funds
Money received by the sheriff from a levy may be held a minimum of 15 days, but not to exceed 30 days, before being released to the judgment creditor or refunded to the judgment debtor. A statutory $10 processing fee is assessed for every disbursement of money collected under a writ. This fee is added to the fees charged for processing civil papers.
