Volunteer Citizen Service Unit
The Colusa County Volunteer Citizen Service Unit (VCSU) was established to aid all Colusa County law enforcement agencies by providing non-enforcement services and activities, such as:
  • Crime prevention
  • Non-enforcement functions requested by involved agencies and approved by the advisory board
  • Office or clerical position work
  • Volunteer patrol

The VCSU is a nonprofit corporation and has its own board of directors. The board of directors serves under an advisory board comprised of the:

Liaison between the advisory board and volunteers is maintained through the sheriff's office crime prevention coordinator.

At the time of appointment, a VCSU candidate must:
  • Be able to volunteer a minimum of 16 hours per month
  • Be a citizen of the United States of America
  • Be a minimum of 18 years old
  • Have good moral character, a police record clear of felony convictions, and good credit standing
  • Possess a California ID card

To drive a city, county, or VCSU vehicle, members must:
  • Pass a defensive driver course and a driving test
  • Possess a Class 1, 2, or 3 California driver's license that is unrestricted, except in the case of corrective lenses
