Education, Licensing & Response
Services provided by Animal Control include:
- Assisting in educating the public regarding animal control issues
- Coordinating with local colleges and universities to help find homes for adoptable dogs
- Enforcing local animal control laws that protect people, animals, and property
- Facilitating redemption of impounded dogs and cats
- Investigating animal bite reports and rabies control cases in cooperation with the Health Department
- Investigating complaints of abuse, neglect, tethering, barking, loose dogs, etc.
- Issuing and maintaining dog licenses for all county dogs
- Maintaining the lost and found board
- Operating and maintaining the Colusa County Animal Shelter
- Patrolling busy streets for stray, injured, and abandoned animals
- Providing adoptions of friendly cats and dogs
- Providing cat trap rentals to county residents
- Providing shelter for stray, lost, abused, and abandoned animals
- Responding to emergencies involving sick or seriously injured domestic animals, including potential human exposure to the rabies virus
- Working with local rescue groups to place adoptable animals
