The Colusa County Sheriff’s Office and Office of Emergency Services is encouraging local residents to prepare for the upcoming series of storms expected to begin over the northstate starting Wednesday, November 27, 2012.
The National Weather Service’s Sacramento Weather Forecast Office predicts rainfall totals of as much as four to seven inches through Sunday, which means creek and stream levels will rise substantially in the County through Monday. The Sacramento River is expected to rise to a level to cause overflow at both the Colusa Weir and Moulton Weirs.
The storms themselves will bring mostly periods of light rain with occasional heavier rain and winds up to 35 to 40 miles per hour, with more rain than snow as this is a warmer storm track.
Reservoir levels will easily accommodate the heavier than average Cascade rainfall, however, with the major Northern California fires earlier in the year, runoff will arrive more quickly causing a concern for local roadways to pond or flood. Residents are encouraged to drive with caution and never drive around road closures onto flooded roadways.
