Colusa County Sheriff’s Office is Awarded $20 Million for a New Jail Project
November 12, 2015 3:00PM
The California Board of State and Community Corrections officially announced today that the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded $20 million for a new jail facility. The new jail, which will be named the ‘Colusa County Detention & Treatment Facility’, will be built on the existing Sheriff’s Office property in Colusa.
The proposed project will construct a new facility that will provide adequate programming, mental health treatment and recreation space. The project will replace substandard housing with podular housing units and provide a medical and dental clinic/exam space. This will allow safety and respiratory isolation cells and expand work areas with support space for medical, mental health treatment, and jail staff.
This facility is funded and authorized by Senate Bill (SB) 863 for the construction of adult local criminal justice facilities. This legislation provides up to $500 million in state lease-revenue bond financing authority for the acquisition, design and construction of adult local criminal justice facilities in California. The Sheriff’s Office received the maximum dollar amount allowed based on our county’s population.
The project development will begin immediately with occupancy of the facility planned for summer 2019.
