Vehicle Pursuit / Arrest
For Immediate Release
February 1, 2017 4:30PM
On February 1, 2017 at about 2:50PM Marcos Montes, age 22 from Gridley CA, was arrested at Sycamore and Jay streets in Gridley by the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office. The arrest followed a high-speed pursuit with speeds in excess of 100 mph. Officers from the Gridley Police Department assisted with the arrest after Montes finally surrendered by pulling over at that location. The Colusa Police Department and agents of the Colusa County Task Force also assisted with the conclusion of the pursuit.
The pursuit started at about 2:32 PM after Montes fled from the Premium Mushroom Plant at 2847 Niagara Avenue in Colusa, CA. Just prior to the pursuit deputies had received a call at the mushroom plant relating to an assault that had just occurred to another employee. Montes, also an employee at Premier Mushrooms, allegedly assaulted a co-worker before he fled from the plant in his vehicle. A description of Montes’ vehicle (blue colored, 2011 Mazda 3 4dr) was provided to responding Sheriff’s Office personnel who spotted the vehicle as it was coming into Colusa. Montes failed to stop for Sheriff’s personnel, and fled from deputies at a high speed north-bound on River Road, and then east-bound on Gridley-Colusa Road until arriving just outside of Gridley where Montes finally surrendered. Montes was then arrested without further incident. The length of the pursuit covered approximately 27 miles.
Marcos was transported back to the Colusa County Jail where he was booked on felony charges of evading of a peace officer.
The Sheriff’s Office is also investigating misdemeanor battery charges related to the assault of the employee at the mushroom plant. The battery allegations are still under investigation at this time.
