Law Enforcement Responds to Pierce High Basketball Game

For Immediate Release

February 27, 2019

Deputies from the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a physical
altercation occurring at the Pierce High School Gymnasium after the
conclusion of a basketball game. Two Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office
were on scene and observed the altercation as it took place. Agencies
responding to the call due to the large crowd included the Williams Police
Department, Colusa Police Department, California Highway Patrol and Yolo
County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies on scene detained several persons related to the physical
altercation. While investigating the physical altercation several additional
verbal altercations erupted in the gymnasium. It was reported school staff
within the gymnasium were working within the crowds to move everyone
safely on their way. During this time an elderly gentleman fell to the
ground. The circumstances leading to his fall are unknown at this time.
Deputies requested medics respond to the scene to assist the elderly fall
victim. Additional law enforcement arrived on scene and safely dispersed
the remaining crowd. In regards to the physical altercation investigated by
the deputies, the victims refused prosecution and agreed to go their
separate ways.

Deputies initiated an investigation into the circumstances involving the elderly fall victim as they were contacted by person’s advising of a possible
crime. The Deputies attempted to obtain statements as well as mentioned
video footage when the reporting parties became uncooperative. Deputies
are working with additional law enforcement on scene to further the
investigation into the fall of the elderly gentlemen. Surveillance footage
from within the Pierce High School Gymnasium has been obtained and
reviewed. Unfortunately the circumstance revolving around the elderly    gentlemen’s fall is just out of the view of the camera.

At this time no charges have been filed and the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office is establishing this as an ongoing open investigation. If anyone has
any information or evidence regarding the circumstances which occurred in
the gymnasium please contact the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office at (530)
458-0200.
