On August 1, 2019 at approximately 0806 hours, an off duty officer from the Colusa Police Department observed a recently reported stolen vehicle travelling eastbound Highway 20 from Colusa.

Deputies from the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office, as well as a Colusa Police Officer were able to get behind the vehicle in an attempt to conduct a vehicle stop.  The vehicle fled from the Officers and a vehicle pursuit ensued.

The stolen vehicle continued eastbound Highway 20 passing the town of Meridian and entering Sutter County.  As the stolen vehicle travelled eastbound over the Sutter Bypass Bridge at a high rate of speed, the driver attempted to pass a vehicle.  While attempting to pass the vehicle, the stolen vehicle collided head on with oncoming traffic.

The two occupants in the stolen vehicle suffered life threatening injuries and later passed away.  No other people involved in the collision were injured.  The California Highway Patrol Yuba-Sutter Office responded and took over the investigation of the collision.
