Umpqua Bank Robbery Arrests

October 10, 2019  9:15AM

           

On 7/5/2019 at approximately 4:39 PM, there was an armed robbery at the Umpqua Bank located in the 500 block of Amanda St. in Arbuckle CA, County of Colusa. Two suspects armed with handguns entered the bank. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing southbound in a stolen Toyota pickup. No injuries occurred during the robbery.

 

A Colusa County Deputy located and pursued the pickup into Yolo County, where one suspect fled on foot and the other suspect continued driving southbound through almond orchards. The second suspect then abandoned the pickup in an orchard south of County Rd. 2, west of County Rd. 88 in Dunnigan CA, County of Yolo.

 

Colusa County Sheriff’s Office personnel, Colusa County Task Force Agents, Colusa County Detectives, Yolo County Sheriff’s Office personnel, CHP personnel, and Woodland Police Department personnel set a perimeter around the area. A CHP Air Unit and CHP K9 were utilized in the search for the suspects. The suspects were able to flee the area and were not arrested.

 

After a several months of investigating the bank robbery, the Colusa County Sheriff’s Office Detectives were able to obtain multiple leads on the two possible suspects. Two arrests warrants were later issued for Michael Gene Jones Jr of Woodland CA and John Williams III of Woodland CA. 

 

Both the warrants included the following charges; 211PC- Robbery, 12022.53(b)-Special allegation-personal use of firearm, 1203.6(a)(1)PC- Special allegation, 487(a)PC- Grand Theft, 10851(a)VC- Take vehicle without owner’s consent/vehicle theft, 496d (a)PC-Receiving stolen motor vehicle, 2800.2(a)VC- Evading an officer willful disregard and 29800(a)(1)PC- Any person who was convicted of felony owns purchases posses firearm.

 

On 10/6/2019 and with the cooperation of the Woodland Police Department, Michael Gene Jones Jr., age 49 of Woodland CA was taken into custody.  Jones Jr. was transported and booked into the Yolo County Jail. Jones Jr. was later transported to the Colusa County Jail where he is currently in custody on multiple felony charges with a bail set at $230,000.00.   

 

On 10/7/19 John Williams III age 40 was arrested by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office on multiple new felony charges, including the Colusa County Felony warrant for robbery.  Williams III is currently in custody at the San Mateo County Jail on the new charges and is pending extradition to Colusa County Jail.
